MIGHTY FINE, MIGHTY FINE AND A GREAT BIG HOWDY! Welcome to the official web site of The Calf Branders! We are excited that you are visiting us! We don't get to any big cities very often or see people that often, or for that matter even know what is going on outside of our home town... We are a Fondis, Colorado based band that has the stand-up bassist from the Hillbilly Hellcats, the twangy lead guitarist from the Railbenders, and two members from the long running Denver Country Rock band the Foggy Mountain F#$kers. We generally are always (out) branding calves or (in) playing our ORIGINAL music. We like to say we play both kinds of music -COUNTRY AND WESTERN!, but we have also been accused of having an "Outlaw Country" edge. (Whatever that is....). By listening to the jukebox in the Roadkill Cafe (in our hometown) is where we learned how play our instruments. It stopped being stocked with new music in 1962. Most of our non-original songs that we know are from "before the jukebox stopped being stocked". Some people have told us that before 1962 is when Country music was really Country, and not the 70's rock that is considered the modern Country of today....we won't comment. We live in Fondis, and this town is on some Colorado maps. Because we live in such a remote area where there are more cows than people, our influences can be very diverse. There is no radio or tv reception here - so what could we possibly do besides sit around and write songs about what we like to do? (Like brand calves, rope, drink whiskey, drive trucks, drink beer, meet cowgirls, make moonshine, and of course compete in Rodeos!) Listen to our music. Some of it you can download for free!
