The Calf Branders: Press

...(GOOD ENUFF) IS A GREAT CD WITH 14 GREAT TRACKS!
JAMES PEARSON - BBC RADIO SHETLAND, SCOTLAND UK
"The Calf Branders are, by far, the best new country/western band in Denver."
Jim Dalton - The Railbenders
"The Calf Branders are great...they really get my toe tappin."
Warren Green - Willie 92.5, CBS Radio
"In a country where hat wearers have seldom set their feet in a stable, these four brothers from Colorado are real rurals (they are calf branders). They deliver exciting music, mixing country rock the Dave Duddley way, tough truck driving songs, country rock, and rockin' blues influenced by Bo Diddley. A group to invite to the Hexagonal (the shape of France) festivals." CRI DU COYOTE (highest grade possible for reviews)
Bernard Boyat - LE CRI DU COYOTE Magazine, France
"The Calf Branders debut c.d. is danceable, bluesy and rocks."
Roger Rural - High Plains Rider
"Roger Rural called and I knew we were in trouble now. The kind of trouble that's fun. He had lassoed us into going to hear the Calf Branders at the Fondis Coliseum. "You've heard their latest CD, haven't you?" I can't say I have heard of them or their CD" I said. "Well - it's "Rockabilly"

The Calf Branders music is toe tapping and I was glad to be in the upperbalcony as I listened to their opening song.

"Were the Calf Branders, we're from out of town.
We like to rope them calves and we throw em down.
We castrate brand and we give em shots.
We do our job and we're pretty hot.
All the ranchers love us when we come around.
Cuz, we're the Calf Branders, we're from Fondis Town.

They belted out their lyrics with raucous enthusiasm and the crowd responded in kind, joining in the chorus.
Before I moved to Fondis, I might have been uncomfortable with the reference to castration, However, I've spent plenty of time during lambing season learning how important it is to castrate the males of the flock.
I'm enjoying the energy of the music and get up to dance in the aisles as many of the 14,000 attendees rock on."
Deirdre H Moon - High Plains Rider
The one thing in short supply in good roadhouse music is humor. But there's no such lack on the debut CD from local twang-bangers the Calf Branders. The boys open "Good Enuff!?" with their very own theme song, which pays tribute to everything from the group's infrequent rehearsals to its job requirements when wrestling calves - which comes complete with a catchy chorus of "castration, castration." Led by Lance Hillbilly Hellcats bassist Lance Bakemeyer (a rancher by day), the act sports seasoned chops, a hotshot lead player in Tony Asnicar, and smart songwriting skills in Christian Dulin and Bakemeyer. The disc's other winking highlights include "I Drive a Truck" and "8 Second Ride" both of which would make Country Dick Montana proud. Add a handful of less campy but solid honky-tonk numbers ("Drink-Up" and "Whiskey God") plus a few rockabilly rave-ups, and you've got proof that these fellas understand what makes a good-time brand of music.
"I just got the new CD, It's Great!"

MP3 Freeloader: Tonight, the Calf Branders CD release party at the Skylark
By Dutch Seyfarth in MP3 FreeloaderFriday, May. 8 2009 @ 1:11PM
The Hellbenders? Close. The Calf Branders.
This evening at the Skylark, the members of Colorado's rowdier rockabilly inspired country bands, the Calf Branders, will be tucking in their cowboy shirts, plugging in their Fender Twins and kicking off a party to celebrate the release of their new disc, the fittingly titled, It's Time to Party. Self described as "a band from Fondis, Colorado, where the jukebox broke down in 1962," the Calf Branders are actually a collection of well known musicians from other bands featuring founding member Lance Romance (from the Hillbilly Hellcats), Tony Nascar (from the Railbenders), and Christian and Buddy (former alums of the Foggy Mountain Fuckers). Unlike a typical show, there is no opening act tonight. "We finally get to open for ourselves and play all night," says Brander's band leader Lance Romance. If songs about driving big rigs, getting blurry eyed on whiskey and keeping country real are your brand of hooch, saddle up and get on down to the Skylark tonight and the Calf Branders will show you just how small town boys get 'er done. Give a listen to the title track from the new record after the jump.
